I wouldn't go out of my way to eat at this place, but if your staying at one of the 4 hotels that are under management by Cannon Beach Lodging, then this place is a good deal for breakfast. My wife had the complementary breakfast & and I had French Toast with Side of Crispy Bacon total minus tip was only $8+ dollars, for that price the breakfast was very good, only issue I had was it came out cold and cafe was small so when people started to show up, it got very crowded and you had allot people standing around you while your trying to eat. Not to mention you had to fight through the line to get your coffee. I would've rated higher if food came out warm / hot, and they did a better job of line management, so patrons eating don't have to look at the backside of other guest waiting to order.

The service was a little slow for a half empty restaurant, but the food was a pleasant surprise! Better than much of the restaurants around here. The ladies who run it are a hoot!

I will say up front that we did not get a chance to eat here, and that is the reason for our score. I bet the food is delicious and the reviews on Yelp made us excited to make the trek up to check them out. We noted the restaurant was open from 11am - 9pm as stated on their listing. It was nearing 3pm so we thought it would be a perfect time to walk up from downtown and beat the dinner rush. My wife and I walked up with our 2 kids to find that they close from 3pm - 5pm. It was 3:02pm. I don't begrudge any business for setting their own hours, but it is tremendously disappointing to walk up the hill a half mile with the family only to be sent back down because they didn't mark their business hours properly (Yelp does allow multiple open windows per day). They did recommend the hardware store/pub across the street, but our experience there wasn't very exciting. The walk back was much grumpier than the walk up. Like I said, the food is probably delicious, but we won't ever try it because the experience soured us on it.

AMAZING food! This is actually a review from May 2014. Our family is about to head back to this adorable cafe next weekend - can't wait!! First, let me say that if you are looking for a vegan or vegetarian friendly restaurant on the Oregon coast, you MUST stop here. This place is also offers lots of gluten free options and much of the ingredients are listed as organic. What was so impressive about this restaurant's food is how incredibly healthy it was AND delicious. Nothing was deep fried and there were tons of raw vegetables, but prepared in such a way they tasted like gourmet treats. Want to see your kids hoover vegetables? Take them here. Here is what we ordered. Take note that we eat "family-style" so we share everything and order more if someone likes something and is still hungry. 1. Roasted Root Hummus - beets, carrots, chickpeas, tahini yumminess served with carrots, celery, and chips. We ended up ordering a second one of these, since the kids loved it so much. 2. Vegan Edamame Black Bean Burger - with avocado, romaine, tomato, and cucumber on it. YUM. 3. Vegan Sweet Potato Burger - with avocado, romaine, and cucumber on it. We ordered a second one of these as well, since our 6 year old son LOVED it. I am pretty sure there was a little peanut butter in this one and it hit the spot for him. 4. Garden Vegetable Sandwich - tons of fresh vegetables with some vegan mayo. This one was my favorite. 5. Apple & Fennel slaw salad - hubby and I were keen on this more than the kids. I think it appeals to a more sophisticated palate. The place also has some outdoor seating, so if you are looking for that, you can find it here. We will certainly be back for any trip down to this area. Can't recommend it highly enough. Great food and fantastic service! Please note this place is open seasonally and only open for dinner during peak summer season. We tried to come for dinner the night prior and learned they open for dinner in June.

We have been anxious to try out the new cafe and were so happy we did! They have a small menu but it is mighty. I got the PBLT sandwich- pork belly, lettuce and tomato on ciabatta bread- so amazing.

Great food and good service. We will definitely be coming back. The sweet potato salad was the best potato salad that I have ever had.

This little gem is everything a cafe should be. Quaint, clean, with a creative menu and excellent service. The portion sizes varied from adequate to enormous (enough to feed two). Also, since the new chef was hired, the creativity and quality of the dishes has gone up even more. Worth checking out, we'll definitely be back! Try the Sweet Potato Salad.

A member of our party ordered the oyster stew-horrible! Tasted like watery, milky sea water. Witnessed one of the servers eating directly off of my salad plate, with his fingers, right before delivering it to me. I ordered hot tea and requested cream and sugar-took forever to get the cream and sugar. Brie and fruit plate with no bread? Granted it was holiday and busy. But man, service was slow. Practically had to beg for water refills. Sad. This space is great and the menu seems nice-execution, not so much.

My meal for one took for-ev-errrrr. I came here thinking they'd have sandwiches and cheaper fare, but I guess in the evening they transition into a fine-dining establishment. Everyone on the patio with me seemed to be on dates, so if you have hours to spare and want a romantic dinner spot, this might be fine. I felt really out of place in my swim trunks, tee and baseball cap. I wanted a good meal fairly quickly so I could catch the sunset on the beach. I barely made it to see the sunset because my meal--one beer and one entree--took two hours, with only about a dozen diners there in that timeframe. The servers were kind but not very attentive, in spite of only having a few tables to take care of. The food was okay. The menu said that the bouillabaisse had shrimp in it, but there was no shrimp and it was almost all mussels instead. They were fresh and tasted good, but several of the shells were broken and I kept biting into little pieces of them. The server felt bad about everything taking so long, so offered to make me a free coffee drink after I paid. I should've known that it would take about 15 minutes longer to get that.

Absolutely love this place! It is never too busy, it is in a great location away from the town entrance, adorable decor and amazing food! Every meal I have had was very good and satisfying.

Our server left her thinking cap at home, but food was amazing, especially the French dip!!

The menu looked awesome, bouillabaisse, cassoulet, boeuf bourguignon, this is a French man's heaven. We came in without reservations, and they asked us to come back half an hour later because they couldn't accommodate 5 people although the place was half empty (we've got 3 young kids, we could easily squeeze), but no big deal we walked around and came back. The waitress was nice, she warned us that the charcuterie plate was going to take at least half an hour. I thought it was strange that a dish that only required cutting cold cuts of meats and cheeses would take that long but we told her to send things whenever they were ready and not wait. They sent out the food for the kids first which was nice, but we got the charcuterie plate at least an hour after we were seated. It was ridiculously huge, and not bad. This could probably have fed 2 adults. I ordered the cassoulet and my wife the bouillabaisse. They came 2 hours after we were seated. My cassoulet was disgusting. It had a strong smokey flavor, I thought I was sucking on charcoals. My wife's shrimp weren't bad, but she complained the fish was tough and not good. The waitress was very apologetic about the wait and comp'ed us the charcuterie plate and a dessert for the kids, but this was easily our worst restaurant experience in a very long time.

We had our anniversary dinner in the cafe and loved our waitress Cassandra. She was attentive and went the extra mile to make us feel special. The cafe has a light and quaint decor. The food is above average. If it weren't for the loud family with a baby who banged a spoon on the table repeatedly and a mom who was playing word games with her toddler who then broke a glass, it would have been perfect!

A terrific find in Cannon Beach. Little French Bistro with a small menu; each item executed to perfection. Excellent vegan options. My husband and I ordered the following items: Bruschetta; Café Garden, and Roasted Beet Salads (ordered the beet salad sans cheese). For our main courses we both ordered Vegan Edamame Black Bean burgers. Dinner was paired with the house [French] table wine (La Vieille Fermé, Cote Du Ventoux Rouge). We had a terrific time, dinner was excellent. Ambiance: 5 stars Server: 5 stars Menu options: 5 stars Quality of food: 5 stars Taste: 5 stars Our compliments to the chef.

I don't think a place should open for the season with half their items unavailable. On Wednesdays, in CB, a lot of the places are closed this time of year. This place had just opened for the season and had no ice tea, no lemonade, no black bean burgers, no clam chowder, no bruschetta and God knows what else. We note several parties who came in looked at the menu, got the litany of what they did not have and left. Perhaps we should have also. Having passed a lot of closed restaurants, we decided to grit our teeth and share a French Dip. I would say the French Dip was store bought beef, not roasted in house and the dip broth was french onion soup, not au jus. It was small. We were charged an extra $2 for the split and not wanting alcohol, settle for water to drink. I don't think we will try them again and if on a Wed., will go to Seaside for some picnic fixings.

Fantastic service and the food was excellent. Dog friendly on the cute patio with pretty flowers. They provided water and patiently stepped around him if his backside swung out from next to the table. The french dip with fennel slaw was excellent as were the crostini's and daughters salad. Pretty place to relax just off the beach.

I chose the salmon with black rice. I believe it was a special and it was delicious! I also had the roasted beet salad. The presentation was awesome. I would definitely come back. I did encounter the same issue that someone else posted. They were unsure if they could seat us even though the place had lots of room. I got the impression that they were not prepared for more people. However our service was fast and the waitress very nice!

We tried to get takeout here today. We put in the order over the phone (for 4 adults and 2 kids) and they said it would be about 40 minutes because they only had one cook and we were placing a large order. We were disappointed as they did not have a number of items available that were on their online menu (a few salads and the black bean burger), but we picked other items to order. When we walked over to pick up our order 40 minutes later, they said it would be another 30 minutes because they were really busy (even though 1/2 the restaurant was empty). 1 star for the long wait, menu items not available, and inaccurate time estimates.

  • Andrea D.

We tried to have lunch here during the busy 4th of July weekend. We were told it would be a 30 minute wait, so we waited. Meanwhile there were many empty tables that just needed to be cleared. Finally someone got around to clearing tables and we were seated. The waitress brought us water and took our order several minutes later. Well about 15-20minutes later I was expecting our food to be up soon. But instead one of the waitress' came out to tell everyone that they were out of bread, so if you ordered something with bread you would have to reorder. Needless to say we didn't want to spend all day having lunch, so we got up and left.

This place seemed promising but unfortunately was a huge let down. We were a group of 10,it's a lot I know, the place had plenty of open tables and we let them know they could seat us separately but apparently they didn't want to do that. We walked out after they told us they were going to sit us all together and sat others before us. They then tried to refuse my husbands take out order. After he persisted, they reluctantly took his order. I regret that we gave any of our business to a place with such poor customer service. Food was just ok.

Our favorite place to bring out of town guests! I was sad to hear they changed chefs and DELIGHTED that they brought back the old chef! I see by some of the reviews others will be pleased too! This is a quaint place with a great menu, great service and wonderful ambiance!! We always sit in Alexis' section, she is adorable and friendly! My favorite is the french dip!!! This is a wonderful spot to relax and have a great meal!!

O-M-G! This place was pure delish! Cannot wait to go back tomorrow! Hubby had the French dip, I had the Rosemary chicken with Brie. Can't say enough good things about it!!!! The sides were a standout as well. Sweet potato salad and homemade sweet pickles. A-MAZ-ING! French press coffee, loose leaf iced tea, top notch. It's a small place with few tables, but so completely worth the wait, you won't be sorry. GO, GO, GO!

Beautiful menu!! I love the vegan vegetarian options! And also gluten free is a plus as well! Our server Cassandra was awesome! We will be back for surf not only for the food, but the service ad well! Casandra has spunk And seems generally happy at Her job!

Traveling with two young children and dining on good quality food is no small feat, but we accomplished both well here. My crab salad was amazingly fresh and divine. They accommodated my daughters picky palate and my one year old was treated very well despite his willingness to toss everything in site on the floor. Oy. Oh and did I mention a house bottle of French Rose for $14? And it was delicious? Yes, please. Do not change a thing.

Enjoyed it. Creative, artistic hot sandwiches and other faire, including vegan and GF options! We will be back!

Food was mediocre and over priced. The $10 grilled cheese came out dripping grease, salami and prosciutto sandwich was caked in mayonnaise and the French onion soup came out cold and seriously salty (salt water with a slice of cold cheese). Wouldn't come back

Wonderful lunch on a windy stormy day. We had the rosemary chicken sandwich and a croque monsieur and they were delish with fennal slaw side. Considering going back for dinner as lunch was so good. Great service as well.

We had an excellent meal here on a wonderful evening sitting outdoors. The waitress was very pleasant the food was very good. My wife had the Quail & I had the Salmon. Both were perfectly done. Also got to thank the Chef personally on the way out.

We are locals. This restaurant has changed hands several times. The new owner and chef are the best that have been here in a long time. We started with the caprese salad - rich heirloom tomatoes, fresh basil, firm flavorful mozzarella, sweet balsamic, and a nice seasoning. Our entree was the filet mignon special, served on a bed of wild mushroom risotto with asparagus. Every bite was a delight - full of delicious flavor and texture. This was our second visit since opened by Bryan and Claudia, and it might become our new favorite restaurant in Cannon Beach. Our server, Craig, was happy, friendly, and efficient.

This place is WAY better than you're thinking right now. American-French brunch classics (with a strong vegetarian/vegan side) executed well above average. Our French dip, croque madame, apple slaw, and spiced potato salad were all excellent. Prices are beyond reasonable, and the staff (including the friendly chef) were helpful and friendly. This is where you should have lunch in Canon Beach.

We are staying right across the alley, and we yelped to find out where to eat. We weren't disappointed, the pan seared scallops were phenomenal, my wife and I split, which she had the french dip, which was also great. My 12 year old ordered the Croque-Monsieur which was spectacular, and only $8, I might add. The specials all looked great, and were in the $25 to $30 range, but there were plenty of items in the $10 range also. You can sit inside or out.

Hate to give it just one star but the terrible service tanked them. Just finished lunch at this place. We arrived in the midst of a lunch rush. The kitchen was turning out orders in what appeared to be fairly reasonable time frame, despite the place being full. Table next to us ordered after us, finished their food, ordered dessert, ate that and paid and departed while we were still left waiting. Imagine our disappointment when it took nearly one hour after placing our order before we received our food. This is after alerting our server that we'd been waiting an inordinate length of time. Our server had totally forgotten about us. He later told us the chef had "dropped" our order. He and a waitress apologized and comped us our ice tea, lemonade and child's milk (we had our 4 yr old with us, who, despite being very hungry, was well behaved throughout the entire wait). Should have at minimum not charged us for one if not both of our sandwiches. Food was ok but service was abysmal. They missed an opportunity to convert a negative situation into a more positive one. Hopefully they'll get their act together otherwise this place is not going to last.

This place has new owners and a new chef. Now there is a creative menu with awesome vegan and non-vegan options. The service was friendly and helpful. Out kids loved their grilled cheese sandwich. My wife and I loved the vegan "tuna" sandwich. Plus they have great cupcakes for dessert! Lots of tea options as well. Definitely worth a visit! We will be back next time we are in Cannon Beach.

Great food and wonderful desserts. We had a big group and so were able to sample several salads and sandwiches. We enjoyed everything we tried, and I'd highly recommend the crab salad with peaches. We also had phenomenal service. Our group showed up just as they were shutting down, but the waiter and chef generously accommodated all 11 of us. I will definitely be coming back.

This place is FANTSTIC! If you are a vegetarian you will love the options! They have a new chef and she is so creative with the dishes on the menu......our waiter was wonderful! We were told they will be open for dinner next Feburary....now they are only open for lunch!

This is one of my first reviews on Yelp and our poor service experience at this restaurant sparked this review. The good: The French Dip was excellent. Two of the three waitstaff were nice (but inefficient). decor and ambiance were really neat and reminded us of come cafés we've been to in France. The bad: 1) we were ignored for a long period of time before being seated in a half full restaurant and once we were seated we were ignored before menus were given. In fact another couple, that came in after us and sat themselves, were served first. We never received utensils or napkins, we had to take them from another table (no one seemed to care). 2) some of the silverware coming from the kitchen was dirty (happens but poor attention to detail) 3) I ordered a glass of wine, saw my server pour it, then saw her look at the glass the wine was in and make a face and pick another (cleaner?) glass and pour that same wine from the "dirty" glass into the clean one. Wasn't asked about the wine until the end of meal. 4) we stated that our daughter had a peanut allergy, asked questions about the food to make sure there were no peanuts in what we would order. Ordered her a butter and jelly sandwich. She was given a peanut butter and butter sandwich. When the waitress put the sandwich down she even said "here's the sandwich with no peanut butter." We caught the presence of peanut butter before my daughter took a bite and then tried to send it back, couldn't find waitstaff. My wife approached another older waitress/manager? who held her hands up said "um, no" and pointed to another waitress. The sandwich was remade and we saw no peanut butter but after eating the butter and jelly sandwich, my daughter developed hives around her mouth after the meal and needed medicine. 5) used iPad based payment system (awesome!) but waitress pointed out how the tip was made (pick 15, 20 or 25% and it will calculate) and then stood over me as I decided how much to give. wouldn't return. wouldn't recommend

French Bistro ambience, delicious & varied menu, good wines. We shared one of tonight's specials..a filet of beef served on a rich, creamy wild mushroom risotto. OMG ... melt in your mouth deliciousness! The filet was grilled to perfection, med-rare. Tonight's special salad was a Caprese Salad with heirloom tomatoes, creamy mozzarella cheese, fresh basil and sweet Balsalmic Vinegar. Our waiter Craig was great! Highly recommend this restaurant. We ate here about 3 weeks ago & it was equally fantastic!

We had a great lunch at the Cafe today. Between three of us we ordered the beet salad, French onion soup, the sunrise salad, the sweet potato veggie burger and the soup of the day, a black bean chili. My brother in law ordered an iced coffee and felt it was the best iced coffee he'd ever had...and it included coffee ice cubes. All of the food was delicious and beautifully presented. Our server (turned out today was her first day!) was great. Having waited tables for years I wouldn't have guessed it was her first day. We had lots of questions about both the food and the coffee. While she had to make several inquiries with the kitchen, she was very through and attentive. I'm looking forward to going back and would highly recommend it!

Excellent food and service. Nothing could have been better. The food is light, freshly prepared and tasteful, you would not get easy better food even in France. Highly recommended. As with respect to the service, they provide European style service, meaning that the waiter was attentive and competent, but operating in the background, so only present when needed, just perfect. Enough time was given to enjoy the marvelous food. No pushing people to leave the restaurant, no annoying 'how are you guys doing?', no grabbing the plates out of the customers' hand even before they finish, as this unfortunately is so common elsewhere in the US, even in high end restaurants.

Party of 7 including 3 children, made to feel welcome. Food was great. Enjoyed the chickpea and sweet potato sandwich. The creamiest clam chowder I have ever had.

Food was priced OK, average for the area, but for the money, it was not worth it. The menu stated you could get anything to go, so we decided to give it a try (our hotel was around the corner). We ordered a few things and headed back. The salad was wilted with slimey bits of green smelling pretty off. The mediterranean platter was below average. The pita bread was hard, the zatziki was oddly sweet, the humus bland. The clam chowder was very watery (possibly from a can). If they couldn't get these easy dishes, I don't trust they could have done much better with the real entrees. The place was cute enough, but the food...not hot. Had we stayed, I would have returned everything. Last time for us at this place!

PLEASE NOTE THAT ANY REVIEWS WITH DATES BEFORE JUNE, 2013 ARE NOT THIS CAFE, WHICH IS UNDER A NEW CHEF AND MANAGEMENT! THE OLDER CAFE CLOSED LONG AGO AND IT'S TOO BAD THE REVIEWS HAVE NOT BEEN TAKEN DOWN BY YELP. This new little French Cafe is a treasure, and is open every day except Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The talented new chef, Jana-Lee is a gifted and passionate artist who creates delicious food for the soul. I recently very much enjoyed her "to-die-for" French onion soup, which was made from scratch, by Jana-Lee, like all of her delicious food. I consider myself a connoisseur of French onion soup, and this one was a delightful surprise. From the deep richness of the prime rib broth and perfectly caramelized onions, to the toasty, crusty bread topped with bubbling cheese...it was, in a word... divine. I returned the following day and ordered the French dip, which is made from Jana-Lee's own slow roasted prime rib and comes with horseradish sauce and a small ramekin of housemade sweet pickles. The dipping juice is the same rich broth used for the French onion soup. The grilled bun was crunchy and yummy. Honestly, it was the best sandwich I believe I've ever had, and it will be the first thing I order upon my return to the Cannon Beach Hotel. I would like to add that the attention to detail at this small, well-appointed French cafe, is remarkable. There is literally something for everyone, whether vegan, gluten-free, vegetarian or a carnivore, like myself. Everywhere I looked I saw people enjoying their food, smiling and promising to return. The cafe staff was working very hard to serve everyone in a timely manner, and it was evident they were concerned about pleasing their customers. I, for one, am going to order the baked brie in phyllo pastry with barry compote backed inside. It looked SO good. As a guest at the beautiful and welcoming Cannon Beach Hotel, I was fortunate to be able to enjoy this great little Cafe shortly after it opened. As an artist, I appreciate a beautiful creation when I see one...and in this case, taste one! Congratulations to Jana-Lee and to the Cannon Beach Hotel management on a beautiful and charming French Cafe. I wish you all great success.

My mom & I were on an Oregon adventure, found this place & loved it! So cute, & they made my mom a delicious, unique mocktail, she was happy ( : we like the food, the service was a bit slow, but we weren't in a hurry. We will go again if we ever find ourselves in the area.

We stopped in for lunch and really enjoyed this cafe. The service was excellent with the server making recommendations for us. I had the French dip sandwich which was wonderful thin sliced flavorful prime rib on a nice crusty roll, served with homemade pickles. My husband had the chicken sandwich which he enjoyed very much. The berry lemonade is very tasty. My advice on the cupcakes: don't order the mini size, order a regular size and split it for a better value and bigger portions. The regular size is about 4 times the size of the mini! The decor is very pleasant with a stamped metal ceiling and nice windows floor to ceiling allowing lots of light.

Usually you do not stop at a reasonably priced fine lunch spot and see such flair and competence from a waiter, but that was the case here. The service was fantastic. Very attentive without being overbearing where you feel the waiter is just angling for a good tip. They truly care about your dining experience. The food? The best French Dip I have ever had, with a copious amount of thinly shaved beef. I usually detest horseradish sauce, but not theirs. I might have licked the cup clean if it was not in bad taste to do so. Just the right amount of garlic, spice, and heat. And the maple bacon cupcake for desert was wonderful. I usually do not get exited at the thought of cupcakes, but this has changed my mind. Not only are they beautiful to look at, the bacon maple tastes fantastic. The spices in the cupcake are a dead ringer for a special little cake my mother used to make, and when it has that cream topping, bacon, and drizzle, the combination exceeds expectations. I love this little restaurant with its French style decor and its wonderful attention to detail

Every year we go back this place is something different. We still miss the Gower Street Bistro that use to occupy this space. They had the best Habenero Martinis! Its now run by a few ladies , I think, who are working on changing over the menu, so they say. The Mac n Cheese is great and my son loves the hamburger. They have Pendelton Whiskey, so one of my needs is being met. My husband ordered the New York Steak which they didnt ask how he wanted it cooked so they burn the ever loving heck outta it. Sent it back and got it done right. Their mistake. I love the space and the decor. The ladies who work there are super friendly, Patient and kind. Usually only have one server for all 10 tables (inside and out) So it can be a tad bit of a wait. So dont go there if youre in a rush or with hyper children. They have beer, wine and cocktails. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. Convienient to where we are staying, went there 3 times and had a fine time, but I feel they could step it up a notch..

Food was good, we had the spicy mahi-mahi (highly recommended) and the fish tacos, both were excellent. The service was very friendly but was under staffed. The "open concept kitchen" was a little distracting because the sound of the bus service and dishwasher drownd out casual conversation. All in all good food and we would come back here for lunch.
